“There’s no such thing as indigo.”

“Yes there is! Look right there! Between blue and violet!”

“Nope. I don’t see anything.

“You’re just blind.”

“I am not! I’ll prove it! There’s red, like your eyes. There’s orange right under it. Then there’s yellow, and then green, and then blue –“

“Like your eyes.”

“Mine’s darker than that. And then there’s violet. See? Only six colors!”

“No, you forgot indigo.”

“There’s no such thing as indigo, Aliana!”

“Well the angels were real.”

“Of course the angels –“

“And then there was the voice of the forest.”

“That’s –“

“So why not indigo?”

“Because it’s not real!”

“Is too! You can’t see it?!”

“I can’t see it because it’s not there.”

“I can.”

“You’re just pretending.”

“Am not!”

“There’s no way you can see it though! Indigo’s not a real color!”

“It’s a mix between blue and purple.”

“It’s not real. Indigo was only made up.”

“No it wasn’t. It’s real, Marth. See? Right in between blue and purple.”

“There’s nothing there. Indigo’s not real.”

“Oh yeah? So what’s the color of your tunic?”

“Dark blue.”

“No, that’s indigo.”

“We can make indigo, but it’s not in the rainbow.”

“You’re stupid. All the colors are in the rainbow.”

“No they’re not.”

“Prove it.”

“Gold’s not in the rainbow.”

“Yes it is. It’s in the yellow.”

“You have got to –“

“And silver’s in the yellow, too. It’s right next to the gold, bronze, and copper.”

“There’s only six colors in the rainbow, not as many colors in the world.”

“That’s stupid!”

“Why? It’s true.”

“No it’s not. If all the colors weren’t there, it wouldn’t be a rainbow.”

“…”

“See? Now do you see the indigo? It’s there. Right there in between the blue and violet.”

“Aliana, it’s not there. There’s no such color as indigo in the rainbow.”

“…We’re not high enough. I think you can see it from the top of the black tree. Come on. Can you climb?”

“Can you see it now? Right there in between blue and violet.”

“No.”

“Oh, you are so stupid. Okay. So first you see the red? All of the reds are in there. That’s why it looks like that ugly tomato red.”

“…Really?”

“Mm-hm. And that orange has all the oranges in it. I actually like that orange. It’s the same orange like the oranges in the orchard.”

“…No, not really. A little darker. It kind of reminds me of that sunrise we stayed up the whole night to see.”

“That too. I’m glad we stayed up.”

“Master Jeigan nearly killed us though.”

“But at least we slept right after.”

“And missed breakfast and lunch…”

“Oh poo. I felt great after that though.”

“I did too.”

“Okay. So see that yellow? All of the golds, silvers, and those metal colors are in there. That’s why it looks like that sunny yellow. Actually…It looks like a lemon sort of yellow, doesn’t it?”

“I guess so.”

“And then look. There’s the green.”

“And all the greens of the world are in there?”

“Mm-hm. All of the grass greens, forest greens, sea greens, and all those other ones are in there.”

“So that’s why it looks like that grass green?”

“Yup.”

“And the blues of the world –“

“Are in the blue part of the rainbow.”

“…That’s weird.”

“No it’s not.”

“You can’t really see all of those colors in the rainbow, right?”

“Yes I can.”

“Then why can’t I see them?”

“Because you think you can’t see them.”

“But it’s true. If we could see every color of the world in the rainbow, then why can’t we see white, brown, black, or gray?”

“…”

“See?”

“No. It’s just that brown and gray are too ugly for the rainbow because the rainbow only has the pretty colors.”

“What about black and white?”

“Black’s the color of darkness. It’s not a really pretty color.”

“It’s the color of your hair though, and I think it looks pretty.”

“That’s what you think. Black’s the color of evil, so the rainbow hates it. That’s why it’s not in the rainbow.”

“And white?”

“White’s not a color.”

“So then indigo shouldn’t –“

“Shut up. It’s a part of the rainbow, and that’s final!”
